Spring 2011 Anime Roundup
We’ve now passed the halfway point for the Winter 2011 anime season. As always, details of the next season, spring, has begun to appear. Here are some out of the 40-odd new anime airing next season.
Astarotte no Omocha!
The anime was originally titled Rotte no Omocha! but its name was suddenly changed in February without explanation. Some suspect that a claim was lodged by Lotte, a confectionary giant.
It is a tale of a young job seeker Naoya who responds to a shady looking request – and he is taken to a different world where a man-hating young princess rules the land.

Hidan no Aria / Aria the Scarlet Ammo
A seeming regular student, Tooyama Kinji has a secret; he belongs to a group of detectives that sometimes use lethal force. However, as he returns home from school one day, he becomes involved in an explosion – and his life is forever transformed by the appearance of an elite student, Kanzaki H. Aria.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
A tale of a young boy who is taken in by a single aunt. Upon arrival, he notices a futon that has grown legs – but is in fact a self-proclaimed extraterrestrial daughter of the aunt, Touwa Erio.
The main appeal perhaps is that this anime is directed by Shinbou Akiyuki of the Madoka Magica fame.

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
A story of friends who were childhood friends but have drifted apart as highschool looms. Then, one wish by a childhood friend brings the six friends back together. It is directed by the producer that brought us Toradora!, Nagai Tatsuyuki.

Nichijou
Animated by the legendary studio Kyoto Animation, Nichijou is planned for 2 cours. It is much in the footsteps of Lucky Star as a slice of life anime with gag elements.

A-Channel
A-Channel is a 4-koma manga originally serialized on Manga Time Kirara, the same comicbook that K-ON!! is currently printing on. Just like Lucky Star and Nichijou above, it belongs to the slice of life genre.
Animation is by the staff of STRIKE WITCHES and –Saki-.

Rotte no Omocha! PV
The promotional video for Spring 2011’s loli anime “Rotte no Omocha” is now live on YouTube.
The quality looks to be very good and the art style is excellent. I’ll definitely be covering this series come April.
