The first season of Shinryaku! Ika Musume began airing exactly a year ago this month. Back then, there wasn’t much buzz around it as it was not well known outside of Japan. However, it became a runaway hit – something probably not anticipated by the staff.
Now, a year later, we have the first episode of the second season. Needless to say, it met expectations.
Hit past the break for more.
Watching an (presumably) alien invasion movie, Ika Musume realizes again that she needs to proceed with her invasion. What started well (in her perspective, of course) ends up awfully similar to the first episode of the first season.
Sanae’s at it again, as usual. However this time, a strong rival to Sanae appears – by the name of Kiyomi. As Sanae watches in murderous mood, more of Kiyomi’s friends show up, prompting Sanae to launch a spy mission.
Squids, aren’t they!?
Venomous squids are appearing in massive numbers at beaches by Lemon and people are getting hurt. Ika Musume finds that lovely (she’s an invader after all) but Chizuru decides to hold a “squid sweep contest” to help with the cleanup.
As usual the series gets off to a good start. I’ve noticed the first episode packs a lot from the later manga series. The art composition has also been tweaked to add moe essence to the main cast. At the core of Shinryaku! Ika Musume S2 is still the same formula that made the first season so successful; an anime that’s cute, funny and light-hearted.
